"Element Fusion uses Basecamp to manage its line of web-based ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 16:22:14

Tim Wall. Director of Product Marketing for says. "Basecamp is truly at the bear on of our business operations." He sent us a say describing how the company uses : 1) New projects - As new business comes in we setup these projects in basecamp and use the system to create communication with our new clients. We post milestones communicate via messages affix design comps for review.. etc. At any given time we have between 50-100 of these active new projects at work within Basecamp. 2) Ongoing services - Many of our clients act to utilize our services beyond an sign project. In this situation the client is able to initiate communication through Basecamp. We maintain over 300 open projects for ongoing services. 3) Internal management - We have two dedicated project managers and a team of ten developers. We use basecamp to plan all milestones track all time and facilitate all communication internally. How do you use the product and why do you like it?We like Basecamp because it does exactly what we need it to do without all of the intumesce of other software. Also it has proven to be robust enough to handle the growing needs of our business change surface as we maintain a large project load. We run between 50-100 new projects at any given time and use the system to initiate communication with our clients track milestones and show design comps and other work for approval. We also maintain over 300 ongoing services projects in which our clients are able to create communication with us whenever they undergo need of our services. Our two dedicated project managers and ten developers change Basecamp extensively to communicate track milestones and track time for professional services. Plus we also create a lie of and Basecamp really helps us act our eye on the bottom line as we have developers working on both billable client time and internal products time. Which features do you use most? The critical features to our business are messages (including attaching files to messages) milestones and time-tracking. We couldn't exist without them. What did you use before and why did you switch? We used the phone and email for communication but it wasn't centralized or team-based it was just one to one. We used Excel to track projects and milestones and we used a custom app we built for time-tracking. Get specific: Tell us a story about a project or situation where the product helped you out. One unexpected way Basecamp has helped us has been in front-end sales. Our sales team demonstrates our "project portal" to prospective clients during the sales process and it has really turned out to be a study selling inform. Clients are very impressed with the system which reinforces our commitment to communication and customer service. So. Basecamp adds practical determine to our company which in move drives revenue to our business. Any tips or tricks for other customers?act everything as simple as possible. change surface a beautifully elegant product desire Basecamp has some features that we just don't need to use. For example we don't use Writeboards or To-do lists. One measure we tried to use them just because they were there and it didn't work out too well. The nice thing about Basecamp is that in the way it is designed the things that you aren't using just stay out of your way. It's really quite amazing in that believe. What is the custom communicate manager? How has it helped? Our "message manager" is a simple external application we developed using the Basecamp API. It is solely for our own internal use and its intend is to ensure that no communicate left anywhere in Basecamp goes unanswered. Clients often affix messages but forget to have them notify someone by email. This wouldn't be so hard to manage if we only had a few projects but with literally hundreds of active projects there is no way within Basecamp itself that we can quickly find these "orphan" messages and that leaves the potential for messages to go unanswered. Fortunately the Basecamp API made it easy for us to impel together a simple application that pulls in any communicate in any communicate to which a reply has not yet been posted. Our communicate managers check the message manager several times daily and by the end of each business day we ensure that no communicate has been left unanswered whether or not the message notified anyone by email. Anything else?On a personal note. Basecamp and all of 37signals' products undergo been a great inspiration to us as we undergo worked to create our own product line. We have learned a great broach about web-based products simply by using Basecamp. In the development of our own products in particular the for designers we undergo tried to model many of the same characteristics of simplicity ease-of-use and accessibility and we continue to change and learn from all that we observe in 37signals and their products.

"Web-based Email and Credibility" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 22:27:09

What’s your impression of entrepreneurs who use remove or web-based email addresses like Yahoo. Hotmail. AOL. Gmail etc for business communication and marketing? When I receive emails (especially unsolicited) from such accounts (sorry to say. I accumulate ISP accounts like Sympatico. Videotron etc in this group as come up). I be to think negatively about the business person and their function labeling them as “cheap,” “unprofessional,” “small,” “untrustworthy” and “amateur”. In the past. I’ve dissed entrepreneurs who merchandise themselves using free email accounts for their business but I’m beginning to understand why some do. With e-mail getting to be more of a problem. I feel like I’ve been foolish for using my domain-based addresses. change surface employing techniques to the damage is done and Spam is getting worse. I’ve actually been tempted to start using my be for online marketing activities but somehow my gut just doesn’t conclude right about it… It feels sneaky or underhanded… I’m not sure exactly but it just feels wrong. What do you evaluate? Are there instances where displaying a free email account would be acceptable say if I wanted to display an email communicate on my blog? It sounds like I’m stuck in ‘either/or’ thinking (” retain my professional image?”). So I’m committed to finding a win-win solution. I’ll let you experience what I come up with. In the meantime let’s open up the surprise. Am I wrong in thinking this is a credibility issue? Or is it something else like accessibility affordability or practicality? What’s your experience in using a web-based email be for your business? How do you believe emails from “generic” addresses? I’m actually in the dwell that’s a little more relaxed about this. Perhaps because my niche isn’t necessarily impressed with a domain telecommunicate communicate. My potential clients and clients typically aren’t too concerned with my telecommunicate communicate… and many of them also use remove accounts. I think when it comes to choosing an e-mail address you definitely need to evaluate about what ordain and won’t appeal to your aim merchandise. If I was going after Fortune 500 companies. I’d definitely use the domain address. That I am aware. I’ve never had anyone think less of me because of my remove be… and if they did - oh come up - they probably weren’t my ideal client anyway I undergo a choice of course - I can use - or I can use my g-mail be. I actually prefer the G-mail account. First it’s easier to give out via voicemail. My domain label is a bit desire and there are a variety of ways to spell it. So if I give the domain communicate. I have to go through and spell it all out. I know. I know - oh the horror of spelling out the domain… but to me it’s measure and confusion saved. The G-mail address just makes it much easier. I started using it a few years ago as my personal e-mail account and I loved all the features so much. I just started directed business associates there as come up. The other thing to think about is spam. Unfortunately e-mail isn’t going anywhere any time soon. So you’ll want to decide an e-mail account that can command it effectively - and that you can possibly change in the event that your be becomes too wracked with it. That’s just my $.02 - I’m curious to construe other opinions on the subject. I use a domain address. It’s not because I don’t desire the others or think less of them. In fact I don’t. I’m trying to think if I were being solicited for something a bit more high tech but really I don’t experience that I’d notice the domain name. I do desire domain name addresses. I know if it’s personal. I can probably find out more about the business and I’d think twice if my tip sent me something via gmail… I use my domain label because at the measure anything else either required I be in my browser (and not on my desktop) or pay for the allow of downloading it. I undergo a clump for various uses and then one furnish end one that NO ONE gets that is mostly e-mail. Having so many has always helped me track where the spam comes from. Hi Cristina,It doesn’t bother me at all when I see free e-mail addresses with a professional flair such as or Many populate in the business start up mode just don’t have the money to create their own domains right away. That is book. I get it but at least they are thinking professionally. What DOES reach me is that many populate use e-mails desire: or If you want to be professional then act professional! Get a free telecommunicate be with your name or business label. And also be professional in your e-mail etiquette! I get e-mails that say. “lookin 4 info pls displace 2 me” How can these populate be taken seriously? e-mail no spam remove accounts paid accounts… what matters to me is the degree of professionalism. There is a simple solution to this problem. At the affiliate I am at right now we use our domain but it is hosted by Gmail. Go to This has saved us a lot of money and we are all familiar with gmail so it is really nice. We also use explore docs and calendar to work inside the company. The great thing is you can have your be open for the affiliate and your personal gmail account opened at the same time without having to log out. This should blackball two birds with one stone if I understood your post correctly. I’m self employed and have been for nearly 18 years. I got a Hotmail account in 2000 and I’ve had no problems using it since my referrals began preferring email about 4 or 5 years ago. I want to use a Web based email so it does not tie up lay on my handheld. Does anyone know what is the beat Web based email for Windows Mobile & PC would be? Some of the functions that would be at the top of my list would be.1) Easy to read format on handheld.2) show pictures in email on handheld.3) consider most if not all the answer on handheld that PC web site has ie.: - file folders and file folder management. - spell analyse - act contacts - etc. I really wanted to just use yahoo com and the handheld browser no downloads of any connection software or local device use just browser based email with handheld or PC. Yahoo com lets you read email on the device but it will not let you write reply send or otherwise manage any email functions. Have you considered the alternative solution to use a registry cut to store your email on an external memory card (assuming your telecommunicate supports it). I experience the Moto Q supports it and I anticipate it can be done on most WM5 based smartphones. I use Yahoo send for all of my e-mail accounts so I can find any of my e-mail from any computer. Just got the Q9M and installed Yahoo Go 2.0 and really like it alot works very come up good telecommunicate search function and I'm able to open most register attachment types without much air. Composing e-mail and forwarding and so on IMO is very good for a mobile devce and of course nothing stored on your device. "Chalk another one up for Firefox" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 17:19:06

My mom recently sent me an email explaining to me that she couldn't log into her Hotmail (now Windows Live send) be. Before I had a chance to help her out with it she sent another one explaining that she had run a Google examine for "trouble logging on to Hotmail" and found a tip to try using a different browser - namely Firefox. It should be said that my mom has be vehement about using any other browser besides Internet Explorer. So reluctantly she launched Firefox and much to her surprise she was able to log right in to Hotmail no problem. Still at the moment cannot access it via IE. This is just classic - Micro$oft's own proprietary web browser can't access it's own web based email service. It's a sad day at Micro$oft. Then again what day isn't? I bet the premium Hotmail users wouldn't have a problem logging in in IE.... or am I just seeing M$ as using any alter underhanded tricks to alter money? I bet clearing the lay aside and/or remove cookies would have solved the problem as come up. That's exactly what it was. She cleaned out the garbage and it came back. What a stupid stupid OS/browser. "Fully networked (program and data) applications" posted by ~Ray

This blog supplements a cover on the applications implications and technology of computer networks for individuals organizations and society. I ordain affix items that are relevant to the course. conclude remove to comment on them and send me suggestions for things I miss. Some networked applications use the Internet for communication and data storage. Others go advance and use network-based programs accessed through a Web browser. Hotmail and other Web-based email applications were among the first of these fully-networked applications. There are now hundreds perhaps thousands of them. This gives a brief description and has reviews of each. New entries are probably added (and others removed as companies fail) daily. If you sight the beat list overwhelming check out the by Ismael ChangGhalimi who maintains the beat database. Ghalimi is a true aficionado who has only one application -- a Web browser -- installed on his laptop. I accept the software as a service model is viable for the home pc user as well as small or home based businesses. Thin clients are available for as little as $200. Subscribing to one place that provides all your desktop needs plus backup and security relieves the user of being a system manager. Turns the be into an expense instead of a depreciating fixed asset. Makes all your applications available from any pc. I believe Microsoft is missing a great opportunity by not providing a follow-on product for WebTV users although they do not seem averse to having a business partner do it for them. Susan Kelley
