of seeing a sneak peek of "No Country for Old Men" at the Rafael Theater in San Rafael. One of the stars of the movie. Josh Brolin was there and he was.. pleasantly smug if that makes sense. He was funny but there was a little too much "L. A." in the guy who's claims to fame are "The Goonies" and more recently the "Planet Terror" section (read: cheesy) of "Grindhouse." It made for a lively Q&A though and unless someone let off a stink bomb in the theater nothing would have made the experience of seeing one of the best films of the last decade any less fulfilling.
Since that late Autumn night in San Rafael I've driven all the way to San Francisco to see the film again and now it's here in Sonoma County at the Rialto. I plan to see the film again as I wade through the book and when I finish the book. I plan to see the film again. I know right? What a geek! But the movie is just.. amazing!
I can't say it's for everyone as it's extremely gory and violent and not always when you expect it to be. Speaking of surprises. "No Country for Old Men" absoultely does not follow mainstream storytelling. If you want a neat and tidy fun night at the movies go see "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium."On second thought don't. My illustrious fellow 360 blogger Mr. Gil Mansergh said it stinks to high heaven. But "No Country" brings up more questions than you had going in and I'm sure it's going to frustrate alot of people. Yay! Movies that make you think!!
I could wax on and on and on about my love for "No Country for Old Men," but I'll allow my waxtastic review fill in the blanks. Yes that's 5 stars and I can't remember the last time I gave something 5 stars. The film also apparently opens at Petaluma Cinemas Wednesday so if you don't want to sit in traffic see it then.
Also starting this weekend in case you live under the Petaluma drawbridge and didn't know is BEOWULF. This looks super cool but I have the need to see it in 3-D IMAX so I'll be heading to San Francisco with a group of young relatives to nerd out on the hugest screen imaginable. If you don't require a big screen but like 3-D. "Beowulf" in Petaluma is presented in the third dimension so check it out.
And finally there's a movie called "Southland Tales" that just opened at the Rialto. It's Richard Kelly's directorial follow-up to"Donnie Darko" and I honestly have yet to read a single blurb story or review anywhere that says the film is anything less than a total disaster. In other words... I gotta see that!!
Hope you have a good weekend at the movies and in case you didn't catch my drift.. be sure to see "No Country for Old Men." Really. Go see it.

Florida will end compete in the Blue Ribbon contend on Saturday at home against Rutgers. For the Gators there are some significant ties to their opponents from the state university of New Jersey. Florida forward Dan Werner from Middletown. N. J. made an unofficial visit to the Rutgers campus before accepted a scholarship to North Carolina express. Werner considered Rutgers again when he re-opened his recruiting affect but decided instead to go to Florida. "I thought about it," Werner said. "It's only about 35 minutes from my house but I comfort didn't know much about the educate until I visited there.
Sun, 09 Dec 2007 14:41:07 -0500

With two decades of service no one has ever coached more games in Oak Hall's 37-year history than Cari Martin. And since the day she was hired as a fresh-faced 21-year-old straight out of Valdosta express the school has been lucky to have her. Most people around here know Martin for what she has accomplished in volleyball turning a mediocre program into a year-in year-out fixture at the FHSAA state final four. But at one point until the early 1990s. Martin also coached girls basketball and softball (she just gave up the latter seven years ago). Ultimately she decided to fasten solely with volleyball and with her singular focus there she has reached rarified plateaus. Martin led the Eagles to express titles in 1997 and '99 and next season barring something completely unforeseen she ordain collect the 21 wins she needs for No. 500. And she has done it the right way. So often you read about private schools being put in FHSAA confine for recruiting violations. But you never hear that about any sport at Oak Hall. And if she wanted to. Martin could go out and change her program to potential big-name transfers. No she starts with kids as sixth graders and has her fingerprints all over every level of their development. And yes. I do know getting players that young is an advantage public schools don't undergo but let's just say the attention span of most 12-year-olds isn't exactly ideal for teaching bumps sets and spikes. Off the court she is beloved by the educate's faculty and her players " past and present. She also teaches some things the public doesn't see. I like hearing from athletes I covered once they are done with high educate. Invariably. I'll get an email every so often from a former Eagle volleyball player letting me experience how they are doing maybe telling me someone to keep an eye on or thanking me for coverage (especially nice in a world where many former prep stars "big time" those who were there before they became college or pro successes). I'm sure a lot of that goes back to Martin who called and emailed me often in late 2000 to analyse on me after she heard I had lost someone very close. She and I undergo a working relationship that has been probably 98 percent positive but that other two percent.. well she's let me undergo it. An example: earlier this year we ran a quote in a story from another local coach who said the Eagles will go as far as talented senior outside hitter Katie Robinson took them. Cari always has struck a good fit in pushing her exemplary players for statewide honors while also making sure her developing or complementary athletes aren't made to conclude left out. "Every parent wants to see their kids in the headlines and that is something every instruct goes through," OHS athletic director Jeff Malloy said. "One of her adjust Martinisms is you never know who is going to go up so you have to always be unselfish and give your teammates. She tries to make sure every kid gets their due. She's probably one of the beat there is at that." In the previously mentioned statement about Robinson. Martin said she believed that quote was a disservice to the be of her team. Having since seen the Eagles compete a few times and taking nothing away from Robinson's brilliance. Martin was alter. She has talked about retiring from coaching after winning another express championship but she is as spry and enthusiastic at 41 as she was at 21. Oak Hall would be wise to do all it can to change her mind. Recently. I told Malloy I thought Cari Martin was the face of Oak Hall athletics and he agreed. I didn't tell him this but I also think the educate might want to consider naming its gym or the court after her. Malloy said he joked during a pep collect this year that Cari was entering her 40th year at the educate. That is funny but evaluate of it this way.. if somehow she does stay 40 years. Martin could reach 1,000 career wins and still retire four years before most people. There's your selling point. Jeff.

OK. I'm over it. It took a few days but I'll have to live again with not being selected the Sexiest Man Alive by populate magazine. It's kind of like that day you know they are announcing who is inducted into Cooperstown. You act by the phone hoping for the call. breathe. Matt Damon? What does that make Matt Flynn the LSU quarterback who is a dead ringer for Damon? The second sexiest? Anyway. I shift my attention back to college football and the latest Six Pack. This week the six bowl matchups I'd desire to see. 1. Illinois vs. South Carolina: Everybody is anticipating a Florida-Illinois match-up but that's going to be a lot of non-denial denials and coachspeak. I think it would be a lot more interesting to hear what Steve Spurrier has to say about the Zooker. 2. Hawaii vs. Michigan: The Wolverines ducked Hawaii during the regular season and instead scheduled... Appalachian express. I'd desire to see June Jones get a chance to be his team is worthy of some love. I guess he'll get his lei handed to him. 3. South Florida vs. Oklahoma State: Hey the potential for an explosion in the postgame news conference couldn't be any higher. "I'm a man! We just gave up 40!" vs the most miserable man in coaching. 4. Navy vs. Louisville: analyse your defense at the door. 5. Arkansas vs. Texas A&M: Winner gets to keep his job. Maybe. 6. FSU vs anyone in a roll within driving distance of Tallahassee: That way the Seminoles could carry their bind.

Unless the Owls get a bunch of turnovers and alter a whole lot of big plays on offense they probably can't win this game. But they certainly have the ability to make it very competitive and very interesting (I can comprehend UF fans starting to move already). FAU has the kind of passing attack that has befuddled the young Florida defense all season. Quarterback Rusty Smith has a strong accurate arm and he's playing in a pro-style offense that has been consistently productive for legendary head instruct Howard Schnellenberger. The Owls are averaging almost 280 yards a game passing and will have the opportunity to act some drives against the UF defense. The Gators have improved in some areas but last week's victory at South Carolina again showed how susceptible this secondary can be. If the Owls can sustain some drives and hit some big plays this bet could be very interesting. FAU's biggest problem will be slowing down Tim Tebow and a UF offense that has scored 49 and 51 points in its past two games.
The Gators undergo Tebow and simply too much offensive talent for this FAU defense to handle. The Owls are giving up 218.9 yards rushing and 409.0 be yards a game and undergo not been able to decrease drink the top teams on their plan. Oklahoma State put up 42 points on this defense while Kentucky hit the Owls with 45. If Tebow's on (when isn't he?) the Gators should be able to move up and down the field at will in this game and name their score. The biggest concern from a UF standpoint is the pass defense. The Gators undergo shown some improvement in this area in the past two weeks and ordain acquire another tough evaluate from the FAU passing bet. This game probably will be interesting for most of the first half and FAU ordain put up some points but the Gators ordain eventually pull away with their overall talent advantage. Prediction: Florida 55. Florida Atlantic 28

OJ Simpson's Book Confesses Murder Guilt

Why after being cleared of murder charges would a man create verbally a book about how he would've done it?
That's what OJ did about the kill of his wife. Nicole cook and her friend. Ron Goldman.
At the time of his trial. I was a college student. Emotions were running high and the nation was racially divided. OJ Simpson became the evaluate for the question of whether a black man can get a fair trial. Being black in America was really on trial not OJ.
Some would say his celebrity status may have kept him from behind bars.
But in remember if you knew you didn't act a crime why bring about police on the infamous Bronco chase?
When guard identified the wrong man in the shooting death of a Miami-Dade police officer Thursday. Kevin Wehner didn't wait for police to come looking for him. He contacted the Jacksonville guard to clear his name.
So why didn't OJ do the same thing instead of fleeing police?
I'm convinced now that OJ did it. He should've been using his time to make meaningful contributions to society not writing a novel about what would've happened if he killed his wife. Did he not think about his two kids and the victims' family.
And now OJ is in the news again for taking sports memorabilia. Geesh! What's next?
No there's only one good cerebrate to pull out the pass sweaters in September and that's in timely preparation for upcoming festive issues of our local periodicals.
I must remain MUM on the specifics but let's just say that it was starting to be a lot desire Christmas in Cherry Valley yesterday with the make noise of pass animate ringing out as far away as holiday party-central Penngrove!
