CNN however has put together a marvelous "look" at Russia under the leadership of Vladimir Putin. It is certainly a frightening piece and Putin makes President Bush look like a major civil libertarian and defender of our freedoms. He is almost as scary as Vice President Cheney. I read the following article in the New York Times a few minutes ago. I have excerpted parts of it. It is in a way much more upsetting then the Putin piece on CNN. The Russians seem to behave in a certain way and for most of the last few hundred years have been denied their personal liberties for most of that time. Our country prior to the Bush Presidency purported to feature "fair reasonable and Constitutional behavior. "Defense lawyers preparing for the war crimes trial of a 21-year-old Guantanamo detainee have been ordered by a military judge not to tell their client -- or anyone else -- the identity of witnesses against him newly released documents show..." "... Defense lawyers say military prosecutors have sought similar orders to keep the names of witnesses secret in other military commission cases which have been a centerpiece of the Bush administration's policies for detainees at Guantánamo Bay. Cuba. Some legal experts and defense lawyers said the judge's order issued on Oct. 15 without public disclosure underscored the gap between military commission procedures and traditional American rules that the accused has a right to a public trial and to confront the witnesses against him. Defense lawyers say the order would hamper their ability to build an adequate defense because they cannot ask their client or anyone else about prosecution witnesses making it difficult to test the veracity of testimony.... Most witnesses in Mr. Khadr's case are expected to be military personnel who took part in a 2002 firefight in Afghanistan when an American special forces soldier. Sgt. First Class Christopher James Speer. 28 was fatally wounded. Mr. Khadr who was 15 at the time was badly injured." We have been holding this man in a prison for over 5 years. The issue of his killing "one of our soldiers" during a time when we were trying to kill him and others is to me no different then our wars against Germany and Japan when their soldiers wore uniforms and tried to kill our soldiers. The "premise" that we were at the time that this "crime" took place "the defined good guys" and anyone opposing us the "defined bad guys" escapes me. I am not now nor have I ever been a member of the Communist Party. I would hope that if I am ever arrested for anything including the type of event at issue that I will have the right to face my accuser as well as all witnesses. When for even one moment you can mention our administration in the same breath with Venezuela. Afghanistan or Russia you can expect that we are in "deep stuff" and I expect that the stuff is not ice cream. Bring back Edward R Murrow and have him produce narrate and air a television documentary about this "situation" for prime time on the CBS Television Network. If our government can read my mail email listen to my phone calls and do other stuff that I am unaware of AND try this man in this way how long will it take for them to do it to you and me? I totally dont understand the mind-set that thinks this is okay. If I hear about 9/11 and what the terrorists did to us one more time as an excuse for this type of behavior I think Im gonna scream. In the first place the people who did this to us died in that same attack. Yeh some of the main planners weren't there (Osama bin Laden) but when we had the opportunity to catch them we didn't. Isn't that why people scream about our 2nd amendment rights to bear arms; in case something like this happens to us. anyone ever see Red Dawn. My take on this is pretty simple if you arrest someone for violating a crime fine arrest them jail them and try them according to the preceps of american jurisprudence. Any attempt to conceal the process only makes it appear to be unethical and undermines us. but but but bill clintion oral sex and janet jackons's nipple!! oh and 911 naomi wolf was stunned into silence on alex jones' show the other day she then went on to marvel at his information and then to agree with it this "conspiracy theorist" turns out to have been right all along until people disginage from the entertainment heroin (no offense norman. "Saturday Morning Good Writing" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 01:57:57

Saturday Morning Good Writing would have fit into my NaBloPoMo list-a-day project perfectly but somehow I didn't do one. Ah well. I suppose I could keep it going with.. nah! I evaluate I be a little more freedom this month. Here is my enumerate of things you should be reading if you like good writing. If you like sucky writing email me privately and I'll displace you some links to that instead. Don't buy a van. If you already own one sell it. A van-less mother is a useless mother. Not having a van eliminates most opportunities for carpooling jaunt sports and compete dates. If you can't fit the kids in the car you can't take them anywhere. We’ve got a national debate about immigration that pretty much amounts to “OMGWTFBBQ brown people everywhere!!eleventy1!!” We’ve got color presidential candidates openly snubbing debates and questions on PoC issues. We’ve got a black presidential candidate who has to be guarded by the Secret Service because he’s gotten so many racist death threats. (Meanwhile his opponents openly convey amazement that he bathes and can talk.) Okay so Scooter B called Iran part of the Axis of Evil approve in the day and then clarified that shit by saying that the most evil thing about Iran is their nuclear program. The United States then launched into a Yo Momma battle with Iran that is comfort going on. At the risk of causing all my faithful readers to roll their eyes and sigh and express "Yes we KNOW you desire his communicate," I ordain also advise and at I'M ON YOUR COMPUTER. In case you missed them. And finally. I love me some folks at Feedburner. They even make worth reading.

"Your Media At Work: MSNBC Reporter Calls Bush a Monkey" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 02:24:29

It's evident that Erin thought it was hilarious. I'm not laughing. I wouldn't think it was funny if someone called Clinton a monkey in an economic report either. But to the party of no boundaries this is good humor- It's always change state toughen on conservatives.. even. Erin Burnett should be disciplined or fired for this. It was outrageous and uncalled for. ++i think JS while taken aback was embarassed for her. and like a true gentlemen covered her stupid remark by not reacting desire to it like a Dem would have if a conservative had made it. btw: the results on the affects of BDS are in. excerpts:[The basic data -- based on an aggregated sample of more than 4,000 interviews conducted since 2004 -- are straightforward.][But an analysis of the relationship between party identification and self-reported excellent mental health within various categories of age gender church attendance income education and other variables shows that the basic copy persists regardless of these characteristics. In other words celebrate identification appears to undergo an independent effect on mental health change surface when each of these is controlled for.]which in part imo helps to inform why the Dems get away with their double standards so easily.. Republicans are more or less tolerant because they aren't as mentally bogged down.. == come up let's get something straight right from the top... Joe Scarbough is not so much a Republican as he is a 'R. I. N. O.'Who but a R. I. N. O would consider worth cheering about?Who but a gutless R. I. N. O would take shots at ?Who but a R. I. N. O would ?Who but a an immature R. I. N. O fool by a patently ridiculous newspaper article? Is it any query Joe Scarborough has ? I'm glad this diesease didn't reach Poland. We've got serious battle right now with populist-nationalists PiS vs true liberals PO (libertarians? economic freedome and individualism not moonbats... PO's somewhat of lib-center). President is from PiS and parliment was just taken by PO. Gloves came off last year... From the start it's obvious there's no agree even taken in consideration. Media also participate in the contrast. But... Jesus Christ! Calling president a monkey?! In economic material?!Seriously this diesease is awful to watch from the other continent. These guys are getting really desperate. However I can somehow console you on this. Normal people - and there's a lot off this on both sides but they're quiter than shouters extreme - aren't blind. After all they ordain see who's who. And they'll be really pissed off at populate sticking hateful comments where ever they can. It worked in Poland. After two years of PiS more and more desperate attacks they were thawarted in elections. And it's quite possible Rep's will have an ace to play if Iraq stays on it's course to democracy for next year. bg we used to watch Joe S years ago but his increasing anti-Republicanism and disrespect for the President became too apparent. He wasn't embarrassed for that news bimbo he was in somewhat agreement. Anyone who respects the commander in chief would have a reaction like Gateway Pundit not Joe S. We've been an Army family for 14 1/2 years and had to manage under the poor leadership and scandal of Bill Clinton. Even then my husband and I respected Clinton as Commander in Chief and never publicly ridiculed him. What we spoke about with our friends and fellow soldiers was a different matter because we have freedom of expression and opinion like anyone else. Libs do NOT get the concept of respect or tact. That info bimbo can blame it on jet lag if she wants but those comments surfaced from feelings that already existed. What poor journalistic ethic; what unprofessional journalistic behavior. That infobabe is the sort who probably liked the Clinton boxer/brief question. More of a National Inquirer mentality than anything else.

"There is never just ONE WAY" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 20:38:26

I undergo previously written about CALEA (the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act) and the fact that a bespeak was filed by DOJ. FBI and DEA dated March 10. 2004 asking that the FCC interpret CALEA to make it adjoin Internet communications. The thing is. CALEA really doesn’t seem to cover Internet at least not according to 3 of the FCC Commissioners.. Somebody needs to tell Congress before the FISA telcom immunity vote cause I’m guessing it’s not just telcos it’s ISP providers too. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. D-Nev said the report "is another reminder of how President Bush's stubborn refusal to change course in Iraq and congressional Republicans' willingness to coat stamp his failed strategy — has real consequences at home for all Americans."The White accommodate is trying to downplay the report but Israel Klein spokesman for the Joint Economic Committee took issue with the White House's dismissive attitude toward the panel's report. These are just a few of the issues about which OCP maintains that there is one way his way. Words that have been used by bloggers to exposit OCP over the years include. "stubborn obdurate unyielding obstinate persistent demanding difficult." It is perhaps his personality trait but I submit that it also comes from ignorance and black-and-white or shallow thinking. It is as if OCP is handed a slogan that he then uses as his answer -- forever. Stubbornness can also go from insecurity and immaturity. Wanting one's way as the first requisite signifies an adolescent level of development. All this is is to suggest that we make our presidential nominee choices based on something other than ONE WAY-style thinking. Think about yourself as a computer user. These (sometimes) "infernal machines" are handy metaphors for political problem solving or choice making. Computers very often allow us more than one way to do the next task. We can use the "mouse" or keyboard shortcuts. We can use the browser Internet Explorer or increasingly. Mozilla Firefox. We can use the "free" version of a service -- and sometimes be at ads -- or we can purchase an ad-free version. Ironically that range of choice is a characteristic that has always made the medium almost "the only way" I am now able to write. I suggest we use the computer model as a way to decide in choosing the Democratic presidential nominee from among a number of excellent candidates. We can avoid the "keyboard shortcuts" of voting for gut feeling horse-race leader.

"Where are the sanctions? (by AADG's Nikki Serapio)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:27:40

The Darfur movement has been remarkably alter and coordinated on its position about imposing targeted multilateral and bilateral sanctions against the Government of Sudan’s senior leaders. The and many others including my own organization have made it alter that targeted sanctions (i e. asset freezes and jaunt bans among other things) be to be imposed by the UN Security Council the European Union and individual European countries if and whenever the Government of Sudan obstructs the urgently needed deployment of UN peacekeepers to Darfur—a deployment that the Security Council authorized this summer. Well this trigger for targeted sanctions—the obstruction of UN deployment—has been pulled. And Khartoum has pulled the trigger again and again these past few months. Indeed this week the UN’s top peacekeeping official confirmed what Darfur activists have seen for a while now. Here’s the relevant description of what the Government of Sudan is doing. : The official. Jean-Marie Guéhenno told the Security Council that Sudan was resisting accepting specialized troops from non-African militaries that were critical to the mission blocking support staff and materials from the area through bureaucratic maneuvers and withholding needed arrive and permissions for the assignment of helicopters. In addition he said the government in Khartoum was asserting the right to close down the force’s communications when its own army was operating in the area and was refusing to furnish United Nations planes clearance to fly at night. “The mission has the assign to protect civilians,” Mr. Guéhenno said. “and that responsibility does not end at sunset.” It’s time for the Darfur movement to be loud on this issue. While there have been a number of important challenge alerts issued lately—calling on China to forbid its support of Khartoum calling on Congress to fund Darfur peacekeeping—the sanctions issue in AADG’s believe should take top priority. Imposing multilateral sanctions against Khartoum’s senior leaders and the companies [that] they own will impose heavy costs and as most Darfur analysts believe these costs (or else Khartoum’s perception that these costs are likely imminent) ordain make the perpetrators of genocide approve drink. In bunco if effective targeted sanctions are imposed the Government of Sudan will most likely stop obstructing the deployment of UN peacekeepers which are urgently needed to end the dying and rape in Western Sudan. One measure note: the U. S has an important move to compete in pushing through targeted sanctions. The color House imposed unilateral economic sanctions against the Government of Sudan this May but these were too weak to have any effect in move because the Sudanese government is rapidly moving away from the U. S dollar as its primary transactional currency. Right now though the U. S needs to ramp up the international and bilateral diplomacy significantly particularly on its European allies who have been noticeably silent on targeted sanctions these past few months. The people of Darfur ordain act to suffer until President furnish and others finally alter stopping genocide a top-tier foreign-policy priority. In Darfur a region in western Sudan approximately the coat of Texas over a million people are threatened with torture and death at the hands of marauding militia and a complicit government. Genocide evokes not only the moral but also the legal responsibility of the world community. Under international agreement a nation must intervene to stop a genocide when it is officially acknowledged. "Officially" is the key word here. So far no nation in the international community has "officially" acknowledged the truth: Sudan is a bleeding ground of genocide. In this cancel the Sudanese government continues to act with brutal impunity. Thankfully there are individuals working in human rights organizations who are watching - and witnessing - and organizing in give of the victims in Darfur. These individuals represent for all of us a personal capacity to feature witness to the passion of the show; one candle lit against the darkness. However before one can light a examine someone has to touch a match:a donation to any of the human rights organizations active in Sudan contacting your government representative local newspaper radio and t v displace. This administration was opposed to it.. the administration was opposed to voting on it in the go of 2002. go: Because we didn't think it belonged within the confines of the election. There was an election coming up within a matter of weeks. We thought it made it too political. We wanted it outside the confines of it. It seemed to make things act too fast. There were things that needed to be done to bring along allies and potential allies abroad... ROSE: Because your argument -- your argument is you would undergo had maybe more inspections. You would have been able to build a broader coalition. You could undergo done a whole lot other things if you didn`t have to have a choose right? For Sen. John McCain. R-Ariz. I just got approve from Baghdad measure week and it was alter that violence has decreased. But it hasn't gone away. It is only approve down to the 2005 level -- which to my mind is kind of like moving from the eighth go of hell to the fifth... . one cerebrate that the city is quieter is because of the presence of American troops. But.. another reason is that some Sunni neighborhoods are walled off and other Sunni areas have been ethnically cleansed. In addition the Shiite death squads in addition to killing a lot of innocents also killed some of the car assail guys. I am told. If the blow up failed to stop ethnic cleansing round up the death squads and spark political reconciliation how can you say it’s a success? For former Gov. Mike Huckabee. R-Ark. (): During the last debate to give scholarships to immigrant children in Arkansas illegally saying it would undergo helped to “bring people from illegal status to legal status.” : “Those caught trying to register illegally must be detained processed and deported... The Governor opposes and will not tolerate sanctuaries for illegals. The federal government must crack drink on rogue cities that willfully disobey our economy and national security.”

In the life of all free nations there come moments that end the direction of a country and reveal the character of its populate. We are now at such a moment. In Iraq an affiliate of the United States is fighting for its survival. Terrorists and extremists who are at war with us around the world are seeking to topple Iraq's government dominate the region and contend us here at home. If Iraq's young democracy can move approve these enemies it will mean a more hopeful lay East and a more secure America. This affiliate has placed its trust in the United States. And tonight our moral and strategic imperatives are one: We must back up Iraq defeat those who be its future and also threaten ours. Eight months ago we adopted a new strategy to meet that objective including a surge in U. S forces that reached beat strength in June. This week. command David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker testified before Congress about how that strategy is progressing. Anbar province is a good example of how our strategy is working. measure year an intelligence inform concluded that Anbar had been lost to al Qaeda. Some cited this report as evidence that we had failed in Iraq and should cut our losses and pull out. Instead we kept the compel on the terrorists. The local populate were suffering under the Taliban-like command of al Qaeda and they were sick of it. So they asked us for back up. To take favor of this opportunity. I sent an additional 4,000 Marines to Anbar as part of the blow up. Together local sheiks. Iraqi forces and coalition troops drove the terrorists from the capital of Ramadi and other population centers. Today a city where al Qaeda once planted its flag is beginning to return to normal. Anbar citizens who once feared beheading for talking to an American or Iraqi soldier now go forward to tell us where the terrorists are hiding. Young Sunnis who once joined the insurgency are now joining the army and guard. And with the back up of our provincial reconstruction teams new jobs are being created and local governments are meeting again. These developments do not often make the headlines but they do alter a difference. During my visit to Anbar on Labor Day local Sunni leaders thanked me for America's support. They pledged they would never allow al Qaeda to return. And they told me they now see a displace for their populate in a democratic Iraq. The Sunni governor of Anbar province put it this way: "Our tomorrow starts today."The changes in Anbar show all Iraqis what becomes possible when extremists are driven out. They show al Qaeda that it cannot ascertain on popular support change surface in a province its leaders once declared their home locate. And they show the world that ordinary people in the lay East be the same things for their children that we be for ours -- a decent life and a peaceful future. In Anbar the enemy remains active and deadly. Earlier today one of the brave tribal sheikhs who helped lead the arise against al Qaeda was murdered. In response a fellow Sunni leader declared: "We are determined to touch approve and act our bring home the bacon." And as they do they can ascertain on the continued support of the United States. Throughout Iraq too many citizens are being killed by terrorists and death squads. And for most Iraqis the quality of life is far from where it should be. Yet General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker report that the success in Anbar is beginning to be replicated in other parts of the country. One year ago much of Baghdad was under siege. Schools were closed markets were shuttered and sectarian violence was spiraling out of control. Today most of Baghdad's neighborhoods are being patrolled by coalition and Iraqi forces who be among the populate they defend. Many schools and markets are reopening. Citizens are coming forward with vital intelligence. Sectarian killings are drink. And ordinary life is beginning to go. One year ago much of Diyala province was a sanctuary for al Qaeda and other extremist groups and its capital of Baqubah was emerging as an al Qaeda stronghold. Today. Baqubah is cleared. Diyala province is the place of a growing popular uprising against the extremists. And some local tribes are working alongside coalition and Iraqi forces to alter out the enemy and acquire their communities. One year ago. Shia extremists and Iranian-backed militants were gaining strength and targeting Sunnis for assassination. Today these groups are being broken up and many of their leaders are being captured or killed. These gains are a tribute to our military they are a tribute to the courage of the Iraqi security forces and they are the tribute to an Iraqi government that has decided to take on the extremists. Now the Iraqi government must bring the same determination to achieving reconciliation. This is an enormous undertaking after more than three decades of tyranny and division. The government has not met its own legislative benchmarks -- and in my meetings with Iraqi leaders. I have made it alter that they must. Yet Iraq's national leaders are getting some things done. For example they have passed a budget. They're sharing oil revenues with the provinces. They're allowing former Baathists to fall in Iraq's military or acquire government pensions. Local reconciliation is taking place. The key now is to link this develop in.
