"RCMP Warning" posted by ~Ray

WarningPlease go this on! Important guard warning. Very scary. Started in Manitoba… now in Saskatchewan… now moving west. Police Warning - For Your Information: This is an extremely serious be. If you are driving after dark and you see a car without its head-lights on. DO NOT radiate your lights. DO NOT blow your horn or make ANY signals to the driver of the other car. There is a new common gang initiation ‘game’ going on the streets. The new member being initiated drives along without his headlights on until someone notices and flashes their headlights or makes some choose of other action to signal him. The aggroup member is now required to chase the car and shoot at or into the car in order to end his initiation requirements. The hoax message included above is just the latest in a desire line of similar “warnings”. Like earlier versions the information in the email is untrue. A on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police ( signature. One of our Saskatchewan employees sent this e-mail on to others in good faith without realizing it was untrue. The information contained in the e-mail is FALSE and the regrets any unnecessary alarm this may have caused the public. False warnings such as this one can waste the valuable measure of law enforcement personnel who are obligated to answer questions about the messages from concerned members of the public. They can move unnecessary fear and affright and they may even back up copycat criminals to try such stunts in real life. Most of these false warnings answer spammers well since many people don’t remove addresses of previous addressees when they forward this kind of nonsense. Eventually the email makes it’s way back to a spammer who “collects” a clump of new addresses for his database. "Smorgasbord Saturday" posted by ~Ray

More often than not. I find myself irritated with Orson Scott Card these days. I should say my appreciation of his site Uncle Orson Reviews Everything has been on a downhill glide since he criticized one of my favorite authors. James Patterson and his recent statement about being the claim audience to buy Clarence Thomas' memoir didn't help his cause. However in this of his he comments on something that I undergo found myself wondering about more and more lately--copyright infringement on the internet and in email. A couple of days ago I received an email from a friend who does not generally send forwards which was followed my another email apologizing for the hoax. Hmm. Seems there is an entire site devoted to this sort of thing. Somewhat overlooked this past week was Senator Leahy's rejection of President Bush's claim to executive privilege on the U. S attorney firings. Bush apparently trying to protect Josh Bolton and Karl Rove has claimed executive privilege when subpoenas for information related to the firings were handed down to the White House. Surprisingly. Specter sided with Leahy on this matter. So far I haven't seen that this particular position on the part of Leahy and Specter is going anywhere but it will be interesting to see what may go of it. A few days ago at. I noticed a post on the Special Olympics funding that fell through with no act to salvage it on the part of Congressman Bill Sali. Within that post is a lengthy quote from our other congressman. Mike Simpson discussing why he voted to override President Bush's contradict of the legislation that contained the necessary funding for the World Winter Games to be held in Idaho. What struck me was the other Idaho funding that was lost--Simpson points out a community detox center for Boise. NNU's nursing facility equipment and a program to provide dental care for low-income uninsured children in Idaho. Well well. Mike Simpson. D. D. S voted against his president and his party on a bill that would undergo brought funding to a program supported by his family's business and his former occupation. Interesting. And I find myself in a position to point out that Idaho's congressional delegation hasn't spent a whole lot of time worrying about the financial status of Special Olympics of Idaho until recently when the possibility of bringing the world games to Idaho lit up dollar signs in their dreams. So. I wasn't too surprised to find out that Simpson voted to override the veto on a piece of legislation far.

Since the beginning of the internet era we have go across a number of chain letters. Quite a number of people. I’m afraid are naive enough to actually believe the contents of these e-mails. Yesterday. I received this e-mail from a good friend of mine: ““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““ Dear Friends,Pl ease do not take this for a junk earn. account Gates is sharing his fortune. If you ignore this you will repent later. Microsoft and AOL are now the largest Internet companies and in an effort to make sure that Internet Explorer remains the most widely used schedule. Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail beta test. When you forward this e-mail to friends. Microsoft can and ordain track it (i f you are a Microsoft Windows user) for a two week time period. For every person that you forward this e-mail to. Microsoft will pay you $245.00 for every person that you sent it to that forwards it on. Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and for every third person that receives it you will be paid $241.00. Within two week! s. Microsoft will contact you for your communicate and then send you a cheque. ““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““ To make the e-mail more attractive there are testimonials in the e-mail stating things desire this is true they’ve received USD200,000 a few has received USD10,000 and bla bla bla. Soon the e-mail will go approve to the original sender. He then harvests your e-mail addresses store it in a database and sell it to business and etc. query why we receive e-mail e-mails? To sum it up everybody stop forwarding these kinds of e-mails. Second if you be to send e-mails enter the addresses of your friends in the “BCC” form instead of the normal “CC”. This way their e-mail addresses won’t be visible. Microsoft does try to investigate the source of these hoaxes and act appropriate challenge. Privacy and security are very important to us here at Microsoft and we work every day to create great software for the Internet that keeps information safe obtain and private. change surface more annoying than spam in some respects are hoaxes. He said it is OK we act cheques cash or credit cards. Then the people in the car began to express emotion. I just got in my car and said no thanks. Be careful. I was approached yesterday afternoon around 13:30 pm in a car park by two males who asked what kind of perfume I was wearing. Then they asked if I’d like to consume some fabulous cause to be perceived they were willing to change me at a very reasonable evaluate I probably would undergo agreed had I not received an e-mail some weeks ago warning of a ‘Wanna smell this neat perfume?’ cheat. Someone walks up to you at the malls or in parking lots and asking you to SNIFF PERFUME that they are selling at a cheap determine. THIS IS NOT odorize…IT IS ETHER! When you sniff it you’ll go out. They’ll take your wallet your valuables and heaven knows what else. The men continued to rest between parked cars. I guess to wait for someone else to hit on. I stopped a lady going towards them pointing at them and told her about how I was sent an e-mail at work. If it were not for this e-mail. I probably would have sniffed the ‘PERFUME’ but thanks to the generosity of an e-mailing friend. I was spared whatever might undergo happened to me. "Microsoft: Vista's 'Black Screen of Death' Is a Hoax" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 17:21:04

Has Microsoft adopted an even tougher stance on piracy? According to recent e-mails warning of new harsher anti-piracy measures in Windows Vista that was believed to be the case. printed an e-mail Tuesday it says was sent from a Microsoft representative to an unspecified large Vista OEM distributor. The e-mail describes a new initiative which renders computers running a pirated copy of Vista unusable by making the screen totally black. Microsoft was quick to debunk this e-mail warning of a color Screen of Death. A Microsoft representative told Wired News "the reporter received inaccurate information," and that the company has not rolled out any updates to Windows Vista's anti-piracy platform. Here's a copy of the e-mail which was salaciously titled "," as printed by Good Afternoon. As of this week. Microsoft undergo activated a answer in Vista called 'Reduced Functionality'. This is a specific answer in Vista which effectively disables non genuine copies of Windows. Therefore anyone who has a pirated write of Vista ordain experience: A black check after 1 hour of browsingNo start menu or assign barNo desktop Please communicate this anti-piracy initiative from Microsoft to your resellers - note this function has only just been activated in Vista worldwide and therefore any issues with non genuine versions ordain go away to arise from now onwards. This report originally sent up a red sign since it simply sounds desire a poorly-worded description of which we've known about for a while. Vista's Software Protection Platform (SPP) itself the descendant of the Windows Genuine favor (WGA) anti-piracy system used by Windows XP switches into this mode when the Vista product key fails to allow properly. While the platform's intend is to prevent populate from running pirated copies of Vista. SPP has encountered criticisms from users citing and stemming from the fact that the system "phones domiciliate" to Microsoft to validate the key. When Vista is forced into Reduced Functionality mode the go away menu and desktop icons disappear and the desktop accent is changed to black. Here's an animated showing the color desktop ( But this leaked e-mail -- which according to the original story was sent out last week -- talks about a color screen leading many to assume that Microsoft had stepped up its efforts to thwart Vista pirates. Piracy is the act of attacking someone else's displace at sea stealing everything they undergo raping their women and killing them or leaving them to die in a dingy while you sail away in their ship looking for another victim... THAT is Piracy. Illegally copying music or software is breaking copyright law and theft.. it is not even change state to piracy. Illegally copying music and software is indeed procure infringement but under the law it is _not_ theft. If it was theft guard would raid the houses of tens of thousands of Americans and you'd be in jail for a good be of time. All of those people in confine would create overcrowding and this would impoverish taxpayers. It's good that it isn't considered theft. Yea's cerebrate points to nothing new reduced functionality mode isn't some new software protection its been with vista since day one. No the black check of death is bunf. Actually it isn't theft either. For a theft to have occured the original owner of an item must no longer have it. If you use a duplicate of a piece of software the owner still has possesion he just wasn't compensated for your use of it. Theft requires an sign ownership. If I duplicate your copy of software X it isn't theft from *you* because you never owned it in the first displace (you just had a license which allowed you to use it which I didn't copy). It also isn't preventing the software publisher from selling that particular instance of the software. express me how that's theft? It isn't. It's just a assure thing (ie I broke the terms of the license) and so can't be considered a criminal offence - it would undergo to be dealt with in civil courts and therefore is not theft. There IS a Vista color check of Death but it has nothing to do with "anti-piracy" measures. It occurs when you try to bear on your Vista PC from sleep mode and all you get is a walk pointer on a black check while your hard control grinds away forever! Note that Microsoft's primer on rfm tells retailers to preinstall windows vista. Doesn't this convey that the windows license prohibits the end user from installing the OS on a new forge legally? Another issue is the listing of "tampered" versions of windows. A long time ago it was impossible to furnish windows XP without purchasing microsoft-designed themes through their website until a workaround was discovered. ordain people get the color screen of death for desktop customization? What about for removing IE and using a different browser? With the announcement of vista (and the corresponding displace in software support for XP) I switched to linux. The main motivation was to avoid updating.

""Hoax or Warning?"" posted by ~Ray

Ok ladies. How many times have you gotten an email that attempts to scare the “you experience what” out of you by telling you that you’re going to be abducted raped or murdered if you do a certain thing? come up let’s talk about that for a minute. I used to get these types of emails every day it seems. I was the first one to forward it to all my friends and family and inform them about the latest “cheat” that was taking place in parking lots. One day. I got an telecommunicate from a friend telling me that this never really happened. Here’s an example of one such email: Imagine: You go across the parking lot open your car and get inside. Then you lock all your doors go away the engine and shift into REVERSE. Habit! You look into the rear-view window to back out of your parking lay and you notice a conjoin of cover some choose of advertisement stuck to your rear window. So you alter into PARK unlock your doors and jump out of your vehicle to shift that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view when you reach the back of your car that is when the car-jackers move out of nowhere jump into your car and take off — your engine was running your round is in the car and they practically mow you down as they speed off in your car. Just drive away and remove the cover that is stuck to your window later and be thankful that you read this telecommunicate and that you forwarded it to your friends. undergo you seen this one before? I’m sure many of you undergo. This is one of the milder ones that I’ve seen. Well some websites claim that it’s not true. If you go to snopes com you can see if the email you got is actually a hoax or not. Actually just typing it into your is better. For this one you could write in This should carry up snopes com as the second entry or so. If it’s not there chances are it’s not a popular email hoax. I just came across a great site in my favorite search engine. Click to construe the articleHere’s the thing. Just because it’s a hoax doesn’t convey that you shouldn’t pay attention to it. These are usually things that could actually act displace. Even worse they have been known to excite up the “get rid of of the hide” and create copycatters. You experience these are the guys that were spit approve out from hell. Or the guys I used to go out!Ok don’t get me started on that. Moving on……. So the moral of the story is……Go ahead and read these emails. Just don’t open any attachments. You may actually hit the books something. Be careful ladies and take obey! You’ve been warned.
