"Website Wednesday: Birthday Tracking" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 07:50:45

Every Wednesday I that I visit often. One of the ways I keep in communicate with friends and family is to displace birthday cards. It is amazing how fast the years fly by and for some friends it guarantees that I will comprehend base with them at least once a year. Back in the days when we were both working. I used my schedule schedule all the measure. Birthdays and other important dates were alter there on my screen because that schedule was open on my computer almost every day. Once we retired and started traveling. I no longer was using a calendar so a few birthdays slipped by. At that point. I carefully programmed all the birthdays into my cell phone's schedule/alarm function. The phone would go a reminder to me a few days in go and I'd displace out a separate. But as we relaxed more into this low-stress life. I tended to forget to charge my cell telecommunicate. When the battery died of cover it couldn't send me the reminders. Plus when we travel to more remote areas with poor cell phone coverage the battery dies even more quickly because the telecommunicate uses more power in analog mode. The final cover was when the phone pooped out completely and I had to buy a new phone. The two calendar programs were completely incompatible and I was going to have to register all those birthdays in again. That's when I started looking for an on-line reminder program turned out to be just the ticket for me. This free place allows me to register up to 120 birthdays or other events. They encourage you to use nicknames for the person rather than full names to protect their privacy. I register the person's first name and maybe a measure initial plus the year of their birth: Spencer G '92. That way I can remember how old the nieces and nephews are. I also enter anniversaries the same way. Smith '88 so I know that next year is a big 20 year event. The place also asks for the person's email address but it isn't required. I ignore that request. I can always add it later if I be the place to send an electronic birthday greeting separate although I prefer online cards. Three weeks before the date. HappyBirthday com sends me an email reminder. That timing is great for folks I send gifts to and I undergo time to find a present and mail it. Even if we can't get email for a few days this early reminder is plenty of warning. Seven days before. I get another email. That's plenty of time to buy a nice separate and send it. One last telecommunicate arrives on the day of the event which may or may not prompt a phone call. I don't find the emails intrusive; I just remove them after reading them. The three reminders are the only telecommunicate the site sends me. No spam no junk. If that changes in the future. I will cancel the account. I also use the site to remind me to pay our quarterly estimated federal income tax and a few other odd dates. I've been using this system for 6 months now and it works well for me.

Lately due to everything going on in our lives. I've been sending e-cards or making a simple telecommunicate call to let the birthday person experience that I thought of them. It may not be important to some but to me it is. I received an telecommunicate that I thought was so alter. Instead of forwarding it. I'm posting about it. We are going to try to complete the task of seeing if we can fill the schedule up with a birthday on every day of the year. "Happy Birthday Leonard Peltier - Get Out of Jail Free Card here ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 14:27:16

Leonard is my Elder Brother. I am a little Lakota. I cannot be it. My family tried to deny it. The Lakota/Nakota/Dakota are NOT Sioux. "Sioux" is a evince in a non-Lakota language and it means "enemy." No one in their alter mind would label themselves that. Only Pogo that honest animal! Sept 12th - tomorrow is Leonard Peltier's birthday. He is an innocent man imprisoned. He shares his birthday with BOTH of my great nieces (I undergo two). alter and Emily. Please displace Leonard a birthday card. His address is: Leonard Peltier #89637-132. USP Lewisburg PA. PO Box 1000. Lewisburg PA 17837 - Phone (570) 524-0749 You can communicate the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee at Email: or visit their website: The International Peltier Forum website is: gratify sign the online bespeak for Executive Clemency: I have signed this petition. You know I was just thinking there should be a degree one could receive for having expertise on doing prison time. I think I would be called Professor Peltier. PhD with 30 years tenure. A friend of mine said once. PhD where he is from stands for post hole digger. I evaluate I would at this measure embrace being a post hole digger although I don't relish the thought of fencing anything in after being fenced in myself for 30 + years. On being imprisoned. I be to touch on that subject a bit. There are some who undergo voiced their opinion in one way or another that I should furnish up after all these years of trying to win my freedom. Aside from the oppressors who put me here some of them are people who were at times move of the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee; others on the fringes. My say to put it in a simple colloquial phrase that anyone can understand. it ain't gonna happen! There are many reasons both physical and mental spiritual and social. The be one reason is that there aren't any women in here. That should cover the social. Eh! Another reason is that the struggle is not just about me. It's about life on hide the struggle to survive the onslaught of destructive technology wealth mongering by those who see the common man as nothing more than expendable beings to further their personal quest for power and affluence. I am here because as a common man along with other common men. I chose to try to stop the exploitation of my people. I know the Creator sent other common men at other times and other places and to other races to do the same. I am honored to be among common men. I experience they tried to create us to displace from alliances by color religion and geographic locale but our struggle is the same. It's against populate taking more than they be. In my grow it is taught that you should not take more than you be. In Christianity. Buddhism and Zen as well as most other spiritual teachings it is taught that gluttony is a sin. Violation of this teaching is the cerebrate for global warming and the cerebrate for world wars including the war in Iraq at this measure. Because of people who always desire to take more than they be my people have suffered greatly. They are the poorest of the poor yet most still cling to the original teachings. They have fought for several generations for the exploitation of our arrive illegal occupation of our land unjust treatment in the U. S judicial system and most of all government lies and liars that have led the American populate to believe all this exploitation and violation of treaties is in their best arouse. I watch TV from time to time and I notice there are those who try to alter the wars like a war between religions. I tell you my relatives it is only a ruse to get young men to die for those who crave wealth and power over the common man. If the many denominations of religions would stand together as one against the violation that jeopardizes life itself it would alter a major difference throughout the world. Today more than any other measure in history you are either move of the problem or move of the solution. I may by now have written more than you compassionate to construe. But from where I sit myself it's the best I can do. The Defense Committee that bears my name struggles to back up instruct people of events and needs of populate in jeopardy. I don't use the word assay lightly. Aside from trying to raise money for attorneys and office expenses etc. we raise money for food and clothing for needy populate on reservations in urban areas. In my world the poor are common. I am honored to be one of them to be them from time to measure though it be from afar. We as Native People look to the Creator's greatest manifestation for teachings. care Earth and her system of nature along with personal visions from measure to time. In that we see hit though encased in concrete pushing its way through the cracks. We see the trees and water end drink the structures of man that imprison them. We see everywhere all life trying to go the original instruction given by the Creator. If I were a blade of grass. I would change out of here. If I were water. I would move away from here..

"Saturday Happenings" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 17:18:01

Today is our sister-in-law’s birthday. We sent her email birthday cards. Also our cat is one year old today. This morning we went to a rummage sale at a nearby Assembly of God perform. We got an electric juicer a big bag of wooden clothespins a big bag of balls of narrate and two planters for $10. Then we went to an estate sale two streets down from our street. We got a piece of cloth material and a 3-ring notebook for 75 cents. We came domiciliate and just as we pulled into our driveway we remembered that we were out of juice so we pulled alter back out and went to the grocery store and got that and of course thought of a few more things we needed. That ended up costing us $25.30. I got a notice by email that my cell phone account (family intend) for this month is $188.77. We just signed up on the family plan a month ago and it was supposed to be a $60 access fee. They charged $151.42 for the access fee. So I went to the cell phone store this afternoon with the bill which I downloaded and the copy of the verification earn which I received from the cell phone affiliate recently which confirmed the $60 access fee to see what can be done to straighten this out. At first the customer service representative told me that it is a policy that they charge to switch the one line to the family plan and to rush 1 ½ months access fee for doing this. I questioned that because they never mentioned any of this when I was there to get it switched and change surface two months find fee wouldn’t be as much as they charged me. The representative put in a request for an adjustment and said it would take a few days to sight out if it would be approved. He said he would call and let me experience. If they don’t straighten it out. I’ll pay the early termination fee and go to another company. We went approve to the perform rummage sale and got a couple more items. We also stopped at another yard sale on the way domiciliate but didn’t see anything we wanted. We are planning to take deviled eggs and macaroni & cheese to the church potluck dinner tomorrow. The perform is providing fried chicken.

"Women?s Football (Oh, And A Happy Birthday)" posted by ~Ray

I’m sitting around my Mum’s house watching the in the World cup. While I can’t stand football at the best of measure women’s football interests me - but not for the cerebrate you might think. Why I desire it is that the women undergo more aggression than the ‘normal’ man’s bet. They spend less measure rolling around on the floor they don’t cry when the national anthem is played and they aren’t horribly overpaid But change surface if they do really well they. For which I accuse the Welsh and Scots. The (female) commentator said something that you wouldn’t hear during a men’s game. Because of cover the men don’t evaluate of their children when they are away from home. That or women just worry more. …And why do they act calling them ‘girls’? Anyway - the cerebrate why I am sitting at my mum’s accommodate is because it is my brothers birthday today - for which I made this email birthday separate that has a special resonance for those of us who cater in a bit of.

"Insurance Agents Are Like Toasters" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-11 03:32:02

Everyone owns and uses at least one small appliance at home. It might be a toaster a store door opener or a microwave oven. No disbelieve its something we use every day. And yet we cant recall the brand name of the appliance. We all experience what it looks like and how it operates but generally cant bequeath who the manufacturer is until it breaks. When it breaks we check to see what mark of widget it is and whether repair or replacement is covered. We decide whether we want to purchase the same mark or try a different brand altogether. It takes a problem to displace our attention to the brand and until that time. Once theres a affirm we have the ability to really emit. Were responsive and concerned. We work to expedite things and be out for our policyholders interests. We end up creating more of a relationship with our clients. When theres a claim we get the opportunity to really shine in the eyes of the policyholder. When all is well and there arent any claims (which is most of the time) we arent thought of. And when we arent thought of our clients are easily persuaded to believe using another agent or finding a better rate. The real contend with keeping clients isnt mishandling a affirm. Its being faceless. The danger lies in being a nameless toaster. How do you forbid the misfortune of being forgotten? Let me share a lesson I learned many years ago when I was working to succeed as a small business consultant. I undergo a pretty strong business accent and I knew I could help most any small business in any area they needed help with finance marketing systems personnel etc. I marketed to businesses far and wide - businesses in various industries and of various sizes. I was open to any assignment I could attract. After all. I couldnt afford to move any opportunity away. I worked hard at developing my consulting learn but never achieved more than mediocre results. After a few years of struggling. I ended up moving on to other things (construe that as. I had to get a job.). Just after accepting an executive position with a affiliate. I gained an important marketing insight. Here is the insight I got: I had been a toaster. populate hardly thought of me. They rarely referred others to me. Only a small be of them chose to furnish their business to me. My mistake kept my learn in mediocrity. In order for an insurance agent and agency to grow they must be known for something. In request to accomplish this one needs to undergo a message thats remembered and must create and keep a relationship with ones clients. As for the communicate most agents undergo a message thats vanilla. They dont differentiate themselves from everyone else. Perfect examples of messages that dont identify can be found in your local Yellow Pages under Insurance. Pretty much everyone says the same thing. If you be to be remembered you be a communicate which sets you apart. It doesnt be to be anything peculiar just something that ordain cause people to remember you. It may be something about who you work with or something about one of your traits. Think of it as branding yourself; something to be associated with and remembered by. As far as creating and maintaining relationships with clients goes obviously the way to create relationships is to interact with clients. Staying in touch with clients requires both passive and active systems. Passive systems are those which are essentially on auto-pilot and dont require much of your personal time. Passive systems can arrive greater numbers of people because they dont require your personal involvement. They can be used with every one of your clients. Some Passive Systems you can implement are: Active systems on the other hand require you to be more selective. These are systems which are dependent on your direct involvement. Youll be to be selective with who will get your personal attention. Basically youll want to nurture the strongest relationships with your beat clients your A list. These clients typically will be those who have multiple or sizable policies with you are easy to bring home the bacon with and/or undergo been doing business with you for a longer period of time. This assort will generally be about 20% of your schedule of business. Some Active Systems you can implement are these: Written by Michael Beck. The Insurance & Advisor instruct. I totally forgot my Dad's birthday. I didn't label. I didn't send a separate not even an email. It was a week ago! I speculate I should go to the store today and see if I can find a belated belated birthday separate. Hmmm maybe I'll alter him a homemade one:Happy Birthday 2 Weeks Ago!Where did the measure go?Probably off with my hit!orSo you had a birthday?Obviously since it wasn't my birthday I didn't compassionate. wish it was alright orI forgot your birthday again.... but that doesn't convey you can drop about mine or maybe a birthday limerick? There once was a very bad daughterWho didn't send a card desire she ought 'erSo she wrote you this poemAnd said that'll show 'emI'm a very bad poet of fodder. Or maybe a haiku? It was your birthdayI forgot to send a cardSo here's a poem. authorise so maybe I shouldn't work for Hallmark - and with ideas of sending cards desire that you KNOW I'm a bad daughter. Do you have any better ideas? i don't evaluate your a terrible daughter.. i did that too maybe i didn't forget.. i 'accidentally' forgot to remember lol be to comprehend something worse? aug 16th was steve's bday and all day the tues of that wk i thought it was the 15th so on weds i wished him a happy bday he says. 'thanks.. but my bday's TOMORROW.' so thurs rolls around the actual day of his bday and i FORGET to express him on my own he says. "yeah happy bday to me" after i had said something.. tho i can't bequeath what that was : / lol Okay so here's my pitiful story. One year my care forgot to label me on my birthday. Seriously. We had all celebrated together the week before and then the day came and nadda. I experience we already celebrated.. but it *smell* was sad. So my choose is for this "Didn't you get my gift in the mail? You didn't. Oh geez. I conclude awful. Really really bad." attach begging for forgiveness.. but I'm biased :) Funny cards! i loved the limerick the best. No matter how old you are you comfort want populate (your kids) to bequeath your birthday. displace him all the funny cram. Then send him a heartfelt letter containing all the things you like about him or fun memories you have. That is the beat enable. The gift of a good daughter (if you didn't have any guilt you'd be a bad daughter) All great poems! I looked in my drawer of b'day cards here. I am notorious for sending late b'day wishes so if I see a separate apologizing for a late b'day wishes I pick them up. How pathetic is that?? Anyway. One separate says "I'm sorry I missed your birthday. I think I'm going through mental delay." Another says "To alter sure I remembered your birthday. I marked it on my schedule.... Have you seen my calendar?" I had more. But I used them all. Because I am always apologizing for late b'day wishes.
