"NASA and NASCAR: Together at Last" posted by ~Ray

By Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides November 30. 2007 | 12:32:58 AMCategories:    Eleven years after The Onion "NASA. NASCAR Merge," NASA and NASCAR officials have announced that the Decemeber 6th. 2007 Shuttle flight will carry the green starter flags for the 50th anniversary running of the Daytona 500. (NASA will also be turning 50 in 2008.) The flags will experience accelerations of up to 3 g's on launch reach speeds up to Mach 25 and travel over 4.5 million miles. that former Kennedy Space Center directors Forrest McCartney and Jay Honeycutt were "avid NASCAR fans who were regular visitors to the speedway and the 500." Of course NASCAR also uses NASA technology at the track... According to drivers wear a cool suit like the astronauts do on EVA's with tubes of cool water that circulate over the skin. They also wear a collar around their necks made of a special foam that NASA developed for airplane seats. The foam protects the neck of the drivers in the event of a crash. Shuttle tiles (or at least the material used to make Shuttle tiles) are also used to create a thermal shield between the driver and the engine to protect the driver from the tremendous heat of the engine. NASA highlighted these and other technological crossover hits when they to the NASCAR track in Indianapolis in 2005. The trailer has a "Minority Report"-like hand-waving interface with its lunar landing site selection station and virtual motion detection room where you can "kick" over Mars rocks. The three flags being flown on the Space Shuttle will end up 1.) with the winner of the Daytona 500. 2.) at the Daytona 500 Experience tourist center and 3.) with NASA- likely to be donated to a museum. [The Onion] [Florida Today] *cost to go to space per pound per this website. $5k-$10k per pound!*if the flag weighs a pound. (handle included??) should the american govt waste such time and money? This is pretty good as many US-based populate traditionally take offthe whole week of Thanksgiving. I was curious about how the mail activity would compare with that of Tomcat so Iwent ahead and created charts for(small chart at left also see )and(). "Analysis of the E. coli NifS CsdB protein at 2.0 Å reveals the ..." posted by ~Ray

(Z)-4-Amino-6-fluoro-5-hexenoic acid is a mechanism-based inactivator of pig brain γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) aminotransferase. An active place residue to which this inactivator attaches is Cys-294. This is the first time a residue other than the lysine to which PLP is bound has been implicated in active place labeling. This review outlines recent developments in electrochemical investigations of proteins adsorbed on electrodes. The important point about ‘protein film voltammetry’ is that it addresses the rates of reactions that become in enzymes — catalysis inhibition electron flow — as a function of potential; in other words it introduces the ‘potential dimension’ into enzyme kinetics. Some surprisingly subtle yet significant observations are made including demonstration of a special role for Mo(V) in the catalytic cycle of Mo enzymes quantitation of the catalytic bias in multi-centred enzymes such as mitochondrial Complex I insight into mechanisms of proton transfer in enzymes and properties of proteins that are covalently attached directly to a gold ascend. The structure of the hexameric rat mitochondrial enoyl-Coenzyme A (CoA) hydratase co-crystallised with the inhibitor octanoyl-CoA has been refined at a resolution of 2.4 Å. Enoyl-CoA hydratase catalyses the hydration of 2,3-unsaturated enoyl-CoA thioesters. In the crystal structure only four of the six active sites of the hexamer in the asymmetric unit are occupied with a ligand molecule showing an unliganded and a liganded active site within the same crystal form. While the protein assembly and fold is identical to the previously solved acetoacetyl-CoA complex differences are observed close to the fatty acid binding pocket due to the different nature of the ligands. The fatty acid tail of octanoyl-CoA is bound in an extended conformation. This is possible because a high B-factor circle which separates in the acetoacetyl-CoA complex the binding pocket of the acetoacetyl-CoA fatty acid tail from the intertrimer lay has moved aside to allow binding of the longer octanoyl-CoA moiety. The movement of this loop opens a tunnel which traverses the complete subunit from the solvent space to the intertrimer space. The conformation of the catalytic residues is identical in both structures as well as in the liganded and the unliganded active sites. In the unliganded active sites a water molecules is bound between the two catalytic glutamate residues Glu144 and.

"Breaking: Hostage Situation Reported At Hillary Campaign Office In ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 22:37:41

BOSTON -- A man took people hostage Friday at a Hillary Clinton presidential campaign office in New Hampshire guard said. The incident happened at about 1 p m. Friday at 28 North Main St in Rochester. Officials said that a man is holding people hostage at the office but it is unclear how many populate are being held. Late Update: Here's from New Hampshire's WMUR -- looks like a suicide bomber might be doing this: Officials with the campaign confirmed that there were two workers taken hostage in the office on 28 North Main St.. A woman and her do by told workers at a neighboring business that she was released by the hostage-taker. "A young woman with a 6-month or 8-month-old infant came rushing into the hold on just in tears and she said. 'You need to call 911. A man has just walked into the Clinton office opened his cover and showed us a bomb strapped to his chest with duct tape,'" witness Lettie Tzizik said. Late Late modify: WMUR that a New Hampshire office for Barack Obama has been evacuated with no injuries. Apparently this Obama office is two doors down from the Hillary one where the hostages have been taken. comfort later modify: The Hillary office is surrounded by a SWAT aggroup. CNN sez adding that the hostage-taker is a guy "in his forties with salt and spice hair." More updates: Edwards' nearby race office has been evacuated and all staff has been accounted for. And Hillary has canceled her scheduled speech at the DNC today with her campaign releasing the following statement: There is an ongoing situation in our Rochester. NH office. We are in close contact with express and local authorities and are acting at their direction. We ordain release additional details as appropriate. I wish you are alter. Shawn. With a woman and an African-American as the front-runners for the White accommodate. I hope this isn't the go away of some turn. The two campaigns undergo so many volunteers and it would be tragic if they were all at assay which would include myself. If Rethuglicans are getting their heads filled by 24/7 Fox News Hillary-vilifying it's inevitable some wingnut will end to act things in his own hands... Yeah it's comfort early to express WHAT this guy's motive is it may not even be political (i e bad breakup with his girlfriend a la "Taxi Driver"). BUT I've been saying for years that IF Hillary gets elected (or change surface gets too close) some right-wing "patriot" ordain think it's important to "protect the country from a Hillary presidencey at all costs." My friends think I'm way off but I say the writing's on the protect. Sounds desire a guy who wanted attention and knew that by walking in to Hillary's campaign office he would get it. Until there is solid bear witness that he's a wingnut saying that he is doesn't alter it so. I just hope that all the volunteers in that office end up OK. /commune I've been following this story trying to act updated in hopes that it is resolved with no injuries. But there is something in all of the reporting that's really starting to get me riled up. In all of the headlines and change surface in the stories themselves there's virtually no mention of the "older man's" ethnicity. They do go so far as to give him a dashing "flavor & spice" descriptor but that's it. Really? So an armed man maybe in his 40's with salt & pepper hair... Wow that's simply staggering. It's seems the fact that this is a white American is being completely ignored. I'll bet you dollars to donuts that were this man of Arab dissent that the FIRST word you'd see in the headlines would be Arab. This is very telling... Everyone needs to just forbid guessing about motivations at this inform no matter how tempting it is to anticipate about which people whose political views we don't desire are behind it. This guy could be anything from an antiabortion extremist to a guy whose talking toaster told him he needed to duck tape a dozen examine sticks to his chest and force Hillary to talk to him about the massive conspiracy he uncovered by decoding the secret messages on those tags on the bottom of upholstered furniture. Just comfort down and act and see authorise? Unless you'd desire to see every comment you make being cited all over Malkin's end of the blogsphere as examples of how hateful all of us terrorist loving communists are. so I move on the local (Boston) radio right-wing mic-jockey show first thing I hear: caller claiming it's all a Hillary plot then three more callers in a row (including a woman who claims she's a "sensible woman) ALL claiming it's part of a Hillary plot. "Local guard are believed to be negotiating with a man described as a well-known local resident with a history of mental illness who told his son to "watch the news today." He is said to be in his 40s with salt-and-pepper hair." In other words unless Tom Tancredo has stopped using Grecian formula it's just a local schizophrenic and not move of any sinister political plan. Dunno about HN but in NY this would seem to go under express's version of the Patriot act and would be affect to roughly double the usual legal penalties. Not that that's good or bad but it's worth following the charges assuming the guy surrenders. Seems to me that local schizophrenics have figured into many sinister political plots. FWIW. "Seems to me that local schizophrenics have figured into many sinister political plots. FWIW." -- anon That may well be at least if you expand "schizophrenic" to consider the broader category of "screwed up ". (cf. Lincoln. John Paul II. Benigno Aquino. JFK. RFK) but such nefarious plots were not generally monumentally pointless as this was. Oh for god's sake. How can you consider Hillary with the Kennedys and MLK? That's an bruise to the memory of these leaders. I heard about it at the last minute during the day at the office via Talking Point's Election Central online political blog. When I got home at 5 pm EST. I put the news on. CNN first of course because it's less neo-con than Fox News. CNN was saying that the suspect was upset about mental healthcare and he was a local man from New Hampshire. Fox News only stated that they thought the suspect was a local. By 5:30 a hostage (female) was released peacefully and calmly. CNN was now giving out the label of the suspect one Leeland Eisenberg of Somersville NH. When I flipped one channel up to Fox News they were showing the hostage being released and stating they thought the suspect was one Troy Stanley a local who was known to have a preserve. By 5:45 another hostage (female) was about to be released and Fox News was beginning to doubt the name of their guess. They felt that perhaps it was a man named Leeland Eisenberg instead. According to Fox News. Leeland had a preserve too. By 6:00 Wolf Blitzer was turning the situation into his War Room show and enjoying every minute of it. Shortly thereafter the last hostage (male) was released and then we had a commercial break. After the commercial break the headline at the bottom of CNN's screen (shouldn't that be a bottomline?) stated that the guard were standing outside the door of Clinton's campaign headquarters and had the building surrounded and then the advertise disappeared while eat talked for a few minutes and the next thing I see is Leeland Eisenberg walking out of the campaign office and into the custody of the hit team waiting outside. CNN airs the footage of Leeland giving himself up getting handcuffed and escorted to a police car all the while raving about how "peaceful" and "textbook" and "perfect".

"Good Water" posted by ~Ray

Stories of Reid Stowe & Soanya Ahmad aboard the Schooner Anne and their Quest to Set A Sailing preserve of 1,000 Days @ Sea w/o outside assistance- Away From Land and without Resupply! September 16. 2007Day 147Checking Our Water SupplyWind SSW 5-8 knotsCourse WNW. go 1-2 knots. Position: 01° 30 N. 06° 37 WWe have four big wet tanks that hold up around a thousand gallons of wet that we rebuilt less than two years ago with the help of the Nidacore affiliate one of our product sponsors. I shouldn't have been worried about our water give but you never experience if a tank leaked or became spoiled. Since the last rain we were able to catch was two months ago. I began to query how we could circumscribe our water and what it would be like to run out of wet way out where we are. We used up our two smaller tanks. One of them I refilled almost halfway the first time we used the big rain catchment tarp. Our main tank has a heavy algae growth and doesn't taste good. We use that wet for washing. I began to be concerned about our water supply because there wasn't any rain. I read how Jon Sanders on his preserve breaking 657 day journey had to journey north of the equator change state to where we are to refill his tanks. So we sailed up here to surprise some rain but we haven't had any luck yet. The problem with our water tanks is that they are under tons of cargo and to inspect them. I undergo to dig down through the cargo. I never figured out another solution. The cargo is secured with partitions and ropes. It was quite a job getting down to the tank tops. I made some provisions so that next time it ordain be a little easier. The main tank had the cloudy wet and was about half full. I moved to another section and checked the turn store. It was also half full and comfort alter from two months ago. The big send tank was critical and I was happy to see that even though we had been using it for two months it was still three quarters full and relatively alter. So I'm relieved. We are actually in good cause and I'm sure we ordain surprise rain soon._______________________________________________ did you carry along some wet filtration systems and cleaningaparatus?hopefully you did as withoutclean water the premise of your journey is over. you'll have to land and refill/alter your tanks wally I was also going to ask if you have any onboard chem to explain the wet that has turned cloudy and the water with growth? Out of curiousity - are you surprised to undergo algae growth/cloudy water? Is a system failing or did you not anticipate the possibility? Thanks - just wondering,Becky http://www generalecology com/storage htmWeb place says 1 teaspoon chlorine bleach for 10 gallons to keep algae growth under control. would reid comment on the state of his health? how does he feel energy-wise? because he looks like he has lost considerable weight and really looks frail in comparison to photos of him at departure. If you desire to complete this 1000 day journey then you MUST experience the condition of your fresh wet (FW) tanks the quantity of water in those tanks and the quality of that water. You should be sounding each store on a daily basis to determine how much is remaining on come in. By monitoring your FW closely and maintaining a daily preserve in your logbook you will be able to reason your daily consumption allowing you to verify whether the tanks are leaking. If your tanks are surrounded by a cancel space then you should be sounding this lay as well. If the tanks are adjacent to hull or fuel tanks then you have a greater risk of contamination. The fact that your main tank has evidence of algae growth is cause for concern and I would put together a plan with the help of your shore staff to address this problem. It doesn’t be much how much fresh water you have if it is contaminated. If you have a manhole cover on the main store perhaps you can eat this water first and then enter the store to manually clean it out. You have proven your ability to deal with adverse conditions in the past and I am hoping you put the same effort into your maintenance of the fresh wet give. If it's "color color algae" it's a real problem because it's toxic. The toxicity is dependent on process and develops mainly when the algae dies. Got Chlorine? Also an issue for ventilation if you have to register any store areas. I would be concerned for suffocation if there is not enough ventilation or sustainable air. I have to agree. Reid you really really look VERY change state. I understand if you undergo always been slender but you be emaciated. I really don't know if you have any way of noticing your charge loss aboard your schooner but you be to check into it. I am an avid supporter but am very concerned with your appearance.
