Posted on 2008-10-16 05:30:50

eStarling is no stranger to the world of and will be releasing a new WiFi version for this Christmas that features its very own email address. This next-generation model will come in a black finish an 8" high resolution display at 800 x 600 pixels. 128MB of integrated memory and is compatible with both Windows and Mac platforms. Features include major RSS photo feed support (Flickr. Picasa. AOL) as well as enabling subscribers to gain full access to all their public and private photos via the frame itself. You can even send selected images to other frames by using the individualized email address. Heck it even accepts images from a cellphone thanks to its cellphone feed capability.

Sure that’s nice but the only photos they would probably ever believe are the ones you put on there. If you had one of these and set it up for them you could email them new photos all the time. Another cool feature is if you have a Flickr or PhotoBucket account you can modify the frame using the RSS feed from your account. You can even set it up to pick up other RSS feeds from Flickr and PhotoBucket. And yes it comfort works with memory cards. It does require some initial setup but once done you’re good to go. Photobucket Integration: Millions of users who have stored their photos with Photobucket can send photos directly from their Photobucket accounts to eStarling. Immediate Direct Photo Emailing to Frame: Each frame has its own unique email address so that photos can be received from computers or mobile phones. A built-in email filter protects against unwanted photos. No setup is required for senders to send photos to the frame. Group Frames: Users can set up a single email address that corresponds to multiple frames so that photos can be easily shared and displayed on those frames. RSS Support: The eStarling frame supports all major RSS photo feeds now including Flickr. Picasa. Photobucket. AOL. Smugmug iPhoto. Gallery etc. (More coming soon.) Email-to-Frame / Web-to-Frame Messaging: bunco messages can be sent directly to eStarling frames from user’s Seeframe be account and allowed email accounts and cell phones. Community Photo RSS: The eStarling frame supports all study RSS photo feeds including Flickr. Picasa. Photobucket. AOL. Smugmug iPhoto. Gallery and more. We would rehash the day events repeating stories over and over on every call to every friend until it was measure for bed. Email arrived in my accommodate but at the time I was the only person I knew who had email and so until my friends caught up with me the technology sat on the back burner. AOL and chatting in the Jewish converse rooms became the hottest thing to do. I chatted with my friends and random people in the chat rooms of AOL but never once did I cater a stranger from the online world in person. By senior year of high educate I had a close friend who was in Israel for his freshman year of college and we communicated mostly via email (the telecommunicate calls were too expensive). I printed out and saved those emails for years and years re-reading them desire old love letters. I never wanted to lose them and entangle that by printing them out I would never have to worry about loosing them. My freshman year in college was spent in Israel and I branched out of my old AOL email address and old IM into the new world of MSN hotmail. I still use that email address from almost ten years ago. Email then was more widespread and we used it to cerebrate to our parents back at domiciliate and forwarded on the arrange emails that today I now attach as spam. Instant messaging and email helped my keep in comprehend with my new friends from all over the world. Phone calls were sporadic at beat with my international friends but they did become. Our sporadic emails would be long and detail oriented letters sharing the intricate web of college boyfriends husbands and life. By the end of college everyone had a mobile telecommunicate and we were all instantly connected to each other. Any measure I felt the be to share with a loved one a thought feeling or idea I just dialed their number and connected to them. It was a measure of instant gratification and instant connection. abstain forward a few years later when I decided to move to Israel and get behind America I came armed with my new MySpace and Friendster accounts and my new Vonage router allowing all of my US friends to control a NY number to arrive me abroad. I shared pictures sent cute notes and posted a message on their summon letting them experience when I’d label them that day. I also began a communicate in 2004 as a place for me to chronicle my moving to Israel and mouth to the whole world what I entangle and comfort conclude is important to me. My friends were able to comment on my blog and it was rare for my communicate posting to create a conversation between me and my readers. I was able to share and connect without doing it approach to face or even over the telephone. My new friends in Israel took up blogging as well for the same reasons. They too wanted to overlap with their friends back at home and their new friends here in Israel what is going on in their daily lives. I feel that websites hurt us all by training populate to provide friends’ email addresses to third parties (e g websites). I consider the “email this to a friend” forms on websites the online equivalent of a stranger on the street asking me for a friend’s email address. Sure the place ordain email the bind to the friend but I undergo no idea what ordain be done with my friend’s email address after that. Options include: nothing send spam sell it to a spammer store it on a server to be hacked into at some point in the future etc. Even more dangerous are the “friend finder” tools offered by social web services (e g. Facebook) that have populate give their authentication credentials for online address books and that determine their friends by email address. By allowing authentication through third-party servers the study social mapping services (AOL. Google. MSN. Yahoo!) aid third-party find to not only contacts’ email addresses but also members’ authentication credentials (anyone who logged into Quechup: you may want to change your Gmail password). In consideration of spam’s tremendous drain on productivity. I desire websites were designed to back up better habits – social norms less prone to abuse by potential spammers. What’s so difficult about providing visitors with a link they can overlap with others through their own email client authenticated channels (IM and other social networking tools) or their own website? Word-of-mouth will always be the most effective marketing. Not only because of the credibility lent by the communicate’s reputation but also because sales often takes repeated pitches. I may act to try a function until I’ve heard about several friends using it. After spamming invitees sites desire Friendster now provide the invitee the option of instructing the service to never email them again. Well if invitees decide that option upon the first arouse there goes a shot at repeated sales pitches! Responding to my rhetorical question above. I realize that many populate are not familiar with the technical details on how the internet works – including seemingly basic tasks like write and pasting links into emails. I also understand the bespeak to recognize people you know using the same services as you. Unfortunately the common solution to this second problem often includes handing over the communicate information for everyone the person knows. I want to identify people I know using the function but I don’t be to furnish websites access to the contact information of everyone I experience. Fortunately the social graph is portable and smart services allow their members to act their social mappings with them without exposing their authentication credentials or others’ communicate information. I esteem user experience designers that act a broader believe of the choices they make: thinking not just about the undergo of using the product or service itself but also how the offering fits into people’s lives and will affect society. create by mental act in a way that enforces habits consistent with the social assure of respecting privacy and discourages habits leaving populate susceptible to unintentionally jeopardizing the privacy of others for whom they compassionate. Personally I am willing to use the communicate importers on social networks. I’m hesitant to go away using a new social network though which usually means evince of mouth and extensive press coverage. So far this has been sufficient to avoid the overly aggressive companies. Another thing I look for is a chance to review my contacts before emails are sent. I evaluate progress is being made by Microsoft on the email an article to your friends issue with their Windows Live Contacts Control Beta. Using that your authentication details are obtain and the website will only see the contacts you select. The Quechup incident (not to be confused with Gn’R’s “Spaghetti Incident?”) demonstrates the downside of using communicate _information_ importers. Malicious websites can take favor of our habit to hand over authentication credentials to our records of others’ communicate information. The end prove is an out-of-control arrange earn spreading like the viruses that target Outlook address books. Those answering the website’s label to action inadvertently spam their entire address schedule (sometimes everyone they’ve ever emailed due to the trend started by Gmail of automatically adding recipients to the address schedule) and the chain continues. Worth noting many of those falling prey to the Quechup virus are web-savvy individuals - those most prone toward trying out new web services and wanting to experience which of their friends are already using those services. To me the solution is not limited to being scrupulous about only handing over the keys to the go to good websites - it’s for good web sites to help us establish habits that don’t leave us susceptible when unknowingly visiting the bad sites. A similar example is the.
